Why Learn Arabic? ๐ค ๐
The Arabic language is spoken by more than 300,000 million people. What’s so special about Arabic is that it is a particular language so no getting around learning the language itself with its specific structures and sounds. Unlike languages of the same family like the Romance languages or the Slavic languages where you can use one of them to understand/communicate/get the gist of the other, Arabic looks unique in its own category even if it is related to languages like Farsi and Urdu. As a matter of fact, that relation is merely on the level of borrowed words and the alphabet but nothing much. Speaking Farsi doesnโt help in communicating with Arabic speakers in any way, shape or form. Although all these Eastern languages have been merged in the societies of the Orient at the time of the Ottoman Empire, but each kept its own particulars.
The other reason to learn Arabic would be to open up to a culture that seems to be raising many questions in the heads of people. The best way to get some genuine answers about that culture is by speaking the language, seeing the culture through the lenses of its own language.
The third reason is actually the main one but it might be too obvious so I kept it till last, which is work. Many jobs around the world; in the US, Canada and Europe, require speaking Arabic. This is because many Arabic speakers live there and many companies and enterprises are looking for ways to become multilingual in their services.
Certainly, there is a personal reason for each and every one who is looking to learn Arabic. Why donโt you let me know what yours is? Iโd love to hear from you.
